I am Kia Anthony.

I am a mother, veteran, and small business owner. I was born in Flint, Michigan, but have called Spring Lake home since leaving the Army in 2006.  I received an honorable discharge from the Army after completing seven years of service, including deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.  I am an entrepreneur by nature as the creator of Just Cactus, a hair and skincare line, and the founder of Circa 1865, a nonprofit organization that focuses on celebrating African American culture.   I have served my community as an activist focused on marginalized communities including food distributions, voter registration drives, census drives, and drive-through COVID-19 testing sites.  I am also a founding member of the Greater Sandhills Chamber.  I live by the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Your Candidate for
Spring Lake Mayor

KIA’S PRIORITIES FOR SPRING LAKE:

Job Growth

We must work to increase the availability of jobs in Spring Lake, ones that will pay a wage that allow you to raise a family. We can start by looking at our local procurement and investing in our workforce with partnerships with FTCC and Chamber.

Affordable Housing

Spring Lake has over 1,500 of our neighbors that spend more than 30% of their incomes on housing (cost-burdened). We must aim to increase the production and supply of affordable housing for both renters and homeowners.

Military & Veterans

Spring Lake needs to become the community of choice for our military, their families, and our veterans. This starts with encouraging local businesses to hire military spouses and veterans as well as fostering entrepreneur growth.

Transparency & Accountability

We must renew the confidence of our community with the government of Spring Lake. All actions must be in the open and we must establish responsibility to ensure the financial health of Spring Lake.
